Innovation and Entrepreneurship Development Cell (IEDC)

In association with Kerala Startup Mission (a Govt. of Kerala initiative), the Innovation and Entrepreneurship Development Cell (IEDC) was inaugurated on the 19th of September 2015.

The Innovation and Entrepreneurship Development Cell of College of Engineering Attingal has continually functioned towards helping the residents to find a convergence between technology and entrepreneurship. We firmly acknowledge that entrepreneurship is the legend to unclose the nation’s true potential and therefore seek to elevate the idea of job creation rather than job seeking. By invariably hosting a large number of inspiring and innovative events and through our flagship annual national-level fest ‘Inaraa’.

IEDC CEAL presently serves as a pre-incubator that supports in furnishing mentorship and aid to the projects of our students and helps to mount them into probable startup realities.

WORKSHOPS

On 30th April 2022, we conducted a session at IEDC CEAl on Entrepreneurship and Mental Health, led by Shihab Makaniyil, Founder and CEO of ShopDoc, and Shibili Suhanah, Psychologist. Ms. Shibili took the class and start from the core to make everyone realize how much of an importance maintaining our mental health has on each one of us. All the people who were there felt both relieved and changed, even by a little, for the better at the end of the day.

IEDC CEAL organized “ALT+CTRL+HACK” an inter-college hackathon competition. The event was conducted in offline mode. Five teams consisting of 3 to 4 students each registered for the event. The problem statements were released on 18/05/2022 and 48 hours was given for finding solutions. The final evaluation was held on 20/05/2022. The judges were Dr. Sunil T & Mrs. Remya R.S. The event was very informative and innovative. The participants showcased their creative ideas. The judges were very insightful and helped the participants with uplifting their ideas.

IEDC CEAL organized “Impressario” an inter-college marketing competition. The event was conducted in offline mode. The event was conducted on 20 /05/22, where the participants were given different topics and scenarios where they were required to showcase their marketing skills. This event helped them in knowing how to appeal to an audience and how to approach with selling a product. The judges were Mr Mohammed Shafeeq Hameed and Mr Sonu J, who were very informative regarding this topic. Mohemmed Sefin was the winner of the competition.

IEDC CEAL organized a Home Automation Workshop. The event was designed to give practical experience with IOT devices for the students. The session was handled by Mr. Vishnu Thampi R & had a participation of 30 students and was held on 4th June, 2023. The program began with an informative group discussion among the students with the guidance of the speaker on how much of an impact IOT devices, specifically Home Automation, has on the current market and various futures hidden in them. After implying the usefulness of these technologies, the day ended with a practical design of a lighting system that turns on when someone enters a room. The design also included a focus - light feature that detects whether a person is using a computer or laptop and gives that person an adjusted lighting. The day was an overall success with positive feedback from every student.

IEDC CEAL conducted an inter-college online workshop on Python Django. It was held on 08/10/2022 from 10am to 2pm via Google meet platform. The class was handled by Mr. S. Mohammed Shafeeq Hameed, Software Engineer at Qburst. The event gave insights on Django, a high-level Python web framework that enables rapid development of secure and maintainable websites. The event received a participation of 58 active attendees for the session. The workshop was conducted in a manner that the participants could have hands-on experience using their own personal computer. The session was an interactive one and received positive response from the participants.

IEDC CEAL in collaboration with Google DSC CEAL organized a 2-day Workshop on 'Project based Machine Learning'. The event was conducted on 12th and 13th of November in offline mode, exclusively for the students of CEAL.Akshay Harikumar and Adithyan S handled the first day of the workshop. The session commenced with an introduction to programming and covered basics of Python. Machine Learning concepts and their implementation were the prime focus of the second day. Amina.S handled the session on this day. This collaboration added to our list of successful events with a participation of 80 students.

IEDC CEAL organized an Arduino Workshop for the first year students of College of Engineering Attingal. The event was aimed at getting the students some exposure on Arduino, a development board and the possibilities it holds. The session was handled by Mr. Sunil T T, Principal, College of Engineering Attingal. Due to the high participation of around 130 students the students were divided into 3 groups and each group was given a one day session on the basics of Arduino1st group’s session was conducted on November 10, 2023, 2nd group’s session was on November 14, 2023 and 3rd group’s session on November 26, 2023. The Session was divided into 2 halves, in the first half the contents include introduction to Arduino, pin layout, IDE, Arduino libraries and a virtual simulation of Arduino using Tinkercad. The next half the students were given an Arduino and other basic components to get an in hand experience and students were made to do simple circuits for blinking a LED, use of switch, etc.

IEDC CEAL and ELECTRINO - the students association, ECE Dept CEAL jointly organized a 2-Day Intra-college Workshop on “Antenna Simulation Using FEKO” as a part of Innovators Premier League. The event was conducted on 6th and 7th of December 2022. Both sessions of the workshop were handled by Mr. Deebu U S, Associate Professor in Electronics, College of Engineering Adoor. FEKO is a computational electromagnetic software product developed by Altair Engineering used for antenna design and simulation. During the workshop the speaker gave an insight about the various types of antennas, their working and design parameters.

Blender is one of the most popular and advanced 3D graphic software programs. It is free, open-source modeling software with a huge user-supported development community. The event was handled by Hibiscus Digital Media, ICFOSS and was conducted in collaboration with Innovation and Entrepreneurship Development Centre, CEAL.The workshop commenced by 9:30 AM on 17th December 2022 and the introduction session was handled by Mr Madhu K S (Director, Hibiscus Digital Media). It gave an idea about what blender is as well as its industrial applications. It was followed by a session by Mr Sunil Kumar B (Director of Animation, Hibiscus Digital Media), Mr. Midhun M (Modeling artist, Hibiscus Digital Media) and Mr Vinod V S (Senior rigging artist, Hibiscus Digital Media). This session was based on navigation, interface and introduction in modeling. Further, the team led a hands-on session where the participants learnt to model a simple object. Day 1 of the workshop ended at 4:30 PM. Day 2 commenced at 9:30 AM and the day was stacked with one hands-on session over the other. An introduction for animation was taken by Mr. Boban M (Consultant Animation Director, Hibiscus Digital Media, Faculty at Arena Multimedia). Further, hands-on sessions were started. It was led by Mr Amal Nanthanan (Animator, Hibiscus Digital Media), Mr Johns Thomas (Junior Animator, Hibiscus Digital Media) and Mr Abey George (Junior Animator, Hibiscus Digital Media). The first hands-on session was regarding texturing and shading of an object. It was followed by a session regarding animating an object. The final hands-on session was based on lighting and rendering of objects.

Innovation and Entrepreneurship Development Cell, College of Engineering Attingal collaborated with the organizing committee of Daksha Yanthra 2023 for the conduct of a EV Workshop on March 31, 2023. The session spanning over two hours was taken by a reputed firm in the edutech sector named Revertech. The session gave insights into the world of electronic vehicles with their architecture, charging, future scope etc. The students were able to gather profound insights from the resource person.

The session spanning over four hours was taken by a reputed firm in the edutech sector named Industrus Tech. The session gave insights into the world of Metaverse with its various sub topics being Augmented Reality, Virtual Reality and NFTs. The students were able to gather profound insights from the resource person.
